Deborah and Ted Parks

Deborah

I have been part of my uncle Jim Parks’ pilgrimages to Europe for a few years, having accompanied him and family to France, Belgium and now Holland. I have filmed him during two of these tours, with the hope of making a documentary film about his wartime experiences and his unwavering dedication to remembering those who didn’t come back. He has been writing stories about his wartime comrades for many years and has been active in preserving his regiments history through his many speaking engagements in school settings and public events.

He has also been a generous contributor of his time for newscasts,TV specials and documentary films .

This project came as a surprise to me, but I welcomed the chance to participate in this film. My first memory of ‘Holland’ was as a child - a small wooden 'Ring Buoy' given to me by my father. It was painted red, darkened with age and had cord attached much like a rea one . There was a  black and white photo of a First war German cruiser - ‘Kreuzer Karlsruhe’  mounted in it.  My Dad's brother and my Uncle - Jim Parks, had brought it back from wartime Holland. I always wondered about its history and have been curious about the Canadian connection to Holland since!
